Obituary for Joyce Wilson

Joyce  Wilson
Joyce Veronica Wilson, age 80 years of Jefferson City, Missouri passed away Monday, June 12, 2017.

She was born March 17, 1937, in Kingston, Jamaica, the daughter of the late Enos Valentine and Loretta Lambert.

Joyce attended Kingston Senior School in Jones Town, Jamaica. She was a seamstress in Jamaica before moving to Jefferson City, where she worked as a nurse’s assistant with Jefferson City Manor Nursing Home for 11 years. She previously worked at Hammersmith Hospital in London, England for several years. One of Joyce's greatest joys was her family and helping others. She was the neighborhood mom in Jamaica and was a strong advocate for education. She enjoyed singing, cooking and baking.

Joyce was united in marriage on August 1, 1959, in London, England to Errol Wilson who remains at the home. Other survivors include her three daughters; Carole (George) Tyus, Jefferson City, Ann (Ellis) McSwain, Jefferson City, and Jennifer (James) Carpenter, Davenport, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Brandi McSwain, Virginia Beach, George (Veronica) Tyus, Jr., El Paso, Texas; Tyrone (Erica) Austin, Lamar Tyus, Amanda (Tommy) Matteson, and Matthew McSwain, Jefferson City; Keesha, Kirsten, TJ, and Brice Carpenter, Davenport, Iowa; Chloe (Mark) Asbell, Pompano Beach, Florida; seven great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; one sister, Delores Eccleston, London, England; and her beloved dog Bridgee.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 am Friday, June 16, 2017.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday, June 16, 2017 in the Freeman Chapel with the Rev. George Tyus officiating. Graveside services will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Boys and Girls Club of Jefferson City, 1105 Lafayette Street, Jefferson City, MO 65101
