Obituary for Georgia Saucier

Georgia  Saucier
Mrs. Georgia M. Saucier, age 92 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the Summit Villa Nursing Center.

Georgia was born December 10, 1924 in Jefferson City, Mo. the daughter of George and Dora (Warden) Burks. She was married on December 6, 1941 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Melvin C. “Bud” Saucier who preceded her in death on November 13, 2011.

During World War II, Georgia was a riveter in Oakland, California while Bud served his country in the South Pacific. After World War II they moved to Mexico, Mo. where Georgia owned and operated, Dairy Castle, a local chain restaurant. Georgia and Melvin moved to Canton, Mo. and proudly owned and operated Saucier Trucking from 1961 until 1982. During their retirement they moved to Jefferson City, Mo. to be closer to family and later moved to Lake St. Louis to be near their daughter.

Georgia was an avid bridge player, enjoyed sewing, and was a wonderful cook. Georgia and Melvin traveled in their recreational vehicle across the United States and Canada and wintered in Arizona for twenty-three years. They also traveled to Europe several times.

She was a member and past worthy matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Mexico, Mo. and she also served as a sponsor for the Rainbow Girls. She was a Girl Scout Leader and helped with Boy Scouts when her children were younger.

Georgia was an honorary member of the Beta Mu Chapter of the Sigma Kappa Sorority at Culver Stockton College in Canton, Mo. This honor was important to her because it was her daughter and daughter-in-law’s sorority.

Survivors include: one daughter, Linda Lage (husband Stephen) of Jefferson City, Mo.; one son, James L. “Jim” Saucier (wife Talley) of Bowling Green, Mo.; one brother, Roger Burks (wife Betty) of Macon, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Mildred Burks of Jefferson City, Mo.; three grandchildren, Christopher Lage (wife Kristy), Douglas Corbit Lage (wife Carrie), and James Talley Saucier; and three great-grandchildren, Gavin Lage, Corbit Lage, and Finley Lage.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 70 years, Bud; four sisters, Edith Major, Pearl Duemmel, Opal Thomasson and Shirley Quinn; and one brother, Bobby Burks.

Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 7, 2017 in the Freeman Chapel with Lay Pastor Chris Gamm officiating. Graveside services and entombment will be held in the Mausoleum of Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Compassus; the Alzheimers Disease and Related Disorders Assn.; the Pike County Home Health and Hospice; or the charity of the donor’s choice.
