Obituary for James "Jimmy" Meyer
James Wesley “Jimmy” Meyer, age 83 years, of Mokane, Mo., passed away Thursday, September 28, 2017 at the California Care Center in California, Mo.
He was born on May 31, 1934 in Mokane, Mo. a son of Clarence “Buster” and Lucille (Adkison) Meyer. He was married on July 15, 1956 at the Mokane United Methodist Church to Evalane Marsch.
A lifelong resident of the Central Missouri area, Jimmy was a 1952 graduate of Mokane High School.
Jim was a farmer all his life. He began farming very young after his father passed away at an early age. He worked as a contract hauler for MFA in Cedar City for 16 years.
He was a life time member of the Mokane United Methodist Church and served in the Missouri Army National Guard. Jim had a heart for helping others and was a charter member of the Mokane Volunteer Fire Dept. He served on the South Callaway School board and also in later years drove a school bus.
Jim loved the outdoors and taking in the wide open country. He enjoyed hunting and fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks and Bennett Springs State Park. He loved boating at the Lake of the Ozarks and taught many friends and family members how to water ski. Jim’s life was dedicated to farming, helping others and above all, his faith.
Survivors include: his wife of 61 years, Evalane Meyer; their two children, James Wayne Meyer, of Mokane, Mo. and Beth Stieferman, of Mokane, Mo.; two grandchildren, Ashlea Horstman (husband David) of Tebbetts, Mo. and Tyler Stieferman (fianceé Rachel Nesmeyer) of Mokane, Mo.; two great-grandchildren, Haley and Henry Horstman of Tebbetts, Mo.; many nieces and nephews; and one sister-in-law.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather; two brothers; five brothers-in-law; and seven sisters-in-law.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. Sunday, October 1, 2017 at the Mokane United Methodist Church.
A funeral service will be conducted at 4:00 p.m. at the Mokane United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jackie Asher officiating. Graveside services will be held at the Mokane Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Mokane United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer’s Association.
