Obituary for Ralph Mueller

Ralph W. Mueller, age 80 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at Oak Tree Villa Nursing Center surrounded by his family.

Ralph was born May 25, 1937 in Jefferson City, Mo. the son of Richard W. and Regina T. Walther Mueller. He was married on March 1, 1996 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Lynda L. Bowerman Bollinger.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Ralph served in the United States Army enlisting prior to his senior year in high school to serve his country during the Korean Conflict.

He was employed with the United States Postal Service before he began working with the Department of Mental Health where he worked to help educate communities on drug and alcohol abuse for several years. He went to work in the construction industry with JC Industries and retired from helping in the maintenance department at the Fulton State Hospital in 2002. Lastly, he was employed as a greeter at Walmart in Jefferson City for nine years.

Ralph enjoyed being a lifelong musician and main passion was playing the fiddle and bass guitar. He was proud to produce an album during his career and often talked about his bands opening for stars such as Barbara Mandrell, Mel Tillis, Loretta Lynn, the Statler Brothers, and others.

He was a member of the Central United Church of Christ; the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Basinger/Sone Memorial Post 1003; and a member of the Disabled American Veterans, Oliver Buehrle Post 17.

Ralph cherished time with his family and his dogs.

Survivors include: his wife of twenty-one years, Lynda Mueller; two sons, Steve Mueller (wife Emily) of Lexington, North Carolina and Doug Mueller (wife Valerie) of Jefferson City, Mo.; one daughter, Connie Stewart (husband Glenn) of Hilton Head, South Carolina; two grandchildren, Brad Mueller of St. Louis, Mo. and Brandon Mueller (wife Christi) of Kansas City, Kansas; one great-granddaughter, Kayla Mueller; three step-children, Robyn Carrender (husband Perry) of Henley, Mo., Michelle Barron (husband Russ) of Emmett, Idaho and Penny Thomas (husband Ed) of Eugene, Mo.; ten step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; one brother, David Mueller (wife Anne) of Jefferson City, Mo.; four sisters, Venita Tuggle of Royse City, Texas, Evelyn Hawkins of Nacogdoches, Texas, Shirley Sieg (husband Bud) of Jefferson City, Mo. and Carol Ray (husband Joe) of Forney, Texas; one sister-in-law, Mary Sue Mueller of Jefferson City, Mo.; and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews and great great nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Donald Mueller; one sister, Irma Bagnull and her husband Paul; two brothers-in-law, Hank Hawkins and Abe Tuggle; and one step-granddaughter.

Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 1:00 until 3:00 pm Sunday, October 1, 2017.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am Monday, October 2, 2017 at the Central United Church of Christ with the Reverend Rushan Sinnaduray officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Compassus or Shriner’s Hospital for Children.
