Obituary for James "JED" Davis

Mr. James Earl Davis, P.E., age 67 years, of Mokane, Mo., went to be with Jesus on Friday, August 11, 2017 surrounded by his family after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer. Jim was also known professionally as “JED”.

Jim was born March 31, 1950 in St. Louis, Mo. the son of William James and Hellen Genevieve Dorrell Davis. He was married on December 4, 1971 in Raytown, Mo. to Clarie Lanette Pollick.

Jim was a 1968 graduate of Hazelwood High School in St. Louis, Mo. and a 1972 graduate of the University of Missouri at Rolla with Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. In 1991, he received a Master of Science in Engineering Management from the University of Missouri at Rolla.

He was employed with the Tennessee Valley Authority at the Sequoyah and Watts Bar Nuclear Plant in Tennessee from 1972 until 1977.

A resident of the Central Missouri area since 1977, Jim was employed by Ameren UE for thirty-eight years and was one of the original engineers at the Callaway Nuclear Plant retiring March 31, 2015 after forty-two years as an engineer.

Jim was a member of Concord Baptist Church; a member of the Mokane Masonic Lodge, No. 612, A.F. & A.M.; a licensed professional engineer in the State of Missouri, a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and a member of the Cleveland Jaycees Cleveland, Tennessee.

He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, hunting, and fishing. He and Clarie thoroughly enjoyed traveling and exploring God’s great earth. His greatest passion was serving others by being a member of the South Callaway Board of Education for nine years, a member of the Board of Directors of the Lakewood Condominiums for sixteen years, and a member of the Kilowatt Credit Union Supervisory Committee for five years.

Most importantly, he cherished time with family and friends.

Survivors include: his wife of forty-five years, Clarie Lanette Davis; two sons, Rodney Edward Davis and his wife Jamie of Ashland, Mo. and Stephen Andrew Davis and his wife Shoneen of Nixa, Mo.; one brother, William Leo Davis and his wife Anna of Florissant, Mo.; two sisters, Ruth Alice Dodson of Farmington, Mo. and Shelley Marie Maeys and her husband Alvin of St. Louis, Mo.; and five grandchildren, Allison Davis, Aidan Reading, Andrew Davis, Adaline Davis, and Kenzie Davis.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Hellen Davis.

Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 pm Tuesday, August 15, 2017 with a Masonic Service conducted at 7:00 pm Tuesday in the Freeman Chapel under the auspices of the Mokane Lodge No. 612, A.F. & A.M.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 am Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at Concord Baptist Church with the Reverend Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at 4:00 pm Wednesday at Maple Park Cemetery in Springfield, Mo. with the Reverend Chris Ballard officiating.
