Obituary for Stanley L. Newton

Stanley L. Newton
Mr. Stanley L. Newton, age 63 years, of Lawrence, Kansas, a former Jefferson City resident passed away Sunday, June 18, 2017 in Orlando, FL.

Stan was born February 23, 1954 in West Plains, MO. a son of Delbert Eugene “Gene” and Maggie Belle (Smith) Newton. He was married on March 3, 1972 in Springfield, MO. to Sara Strong and from this marriage his two children were born, Aaron and Courtney. Sara and he remained friends to this day.

He was a 1972 graduate of Jefferson City High School and had many lifelong friends through his class.

Stan was employed in the energy sector his entire professional career, which spanned over 40 years. He was currently employed as a Senior Originator with Westar Energy, based out of Topeka, Kansas, but he traveled the country working with clients. Before his career with Westar, he had worked with Missouri Power and Light (while living in Jefferson City and Moberly), Associated Electric (while living in Springfield), and Cargill (while living in Madison, Wisconsin and Minneapolis, Minnesota).

Stan was a man of faith who attended church throughout his life and was a faithful supporter of Alabaster Ministries. Those around him were a witness to his constant nurturing love and faith.

Stan had a deep love for his family and always cherished time with them. He was a very private and selfless person, but always took the time to get to know someone the best he could. He loved supporting his granddaughters by attending their softball games or dance recitals. He thoroughly enjoyed traveling, especially to warm places to lounge on a beach or to watch college football bowl games. Though he loved traveling and seeing all the different cities, Stan enjoyed being in the outdoors; hunting, fishing or golfing. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on the Mizzou Tigers and St. Louis Cardinals.

His sweet and simple demeanor that won the hearts of many as well as his unwavering faith in God will never be forgotten.
Survivors include: one son, Aaron Newton (wife Lori) of Jefferson City, MO.; one daughter, Courtney Yake of Springfield, MO.; three granddaughters, Dakota Newton, Megan Newton, and Mia Yake; his parents, Gene and Maggie Newton of Jefferson City, MO.; one brother, Scott Newton of Jefferson City, MO.; one sister, Kathy Volkerding (husband Bob) of Jefferson City, MO.; his niece, Leslie Chiles (husband Dave); and three nephews, Brian Bloomer (wife Susan), Shannon Newton (wife Bree), and Kaleb Newton.

Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2017 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.
