Obituary for Elmer M. Redcay

Elmer M.  Redcay
Mr. Elmer Martin Redcay, age 62 years, of Jefferson City, MO died Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the University of Missouri Hospital, Columbia, MO.

He was born on March 27, 1955 in Lebanon, PA a son of the late Henry and Lizzie (Martin) Redcay. He was married on June 12, 1976 in Versailles, MO to Judith Wenger.

Elmer attended Garden Spot High School, New Holland, PA and then went to work for Hesston Corporation in Hesston, KS. He was employed by Walmart Super Center in the produce department from 1990 until present.

In 1975, Elmer accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the age of 20 at Hesston Inter-Mennonite Fellowship by the Rev. Waldo Miller. In 1998, he became member of First Church of God, Jefferson City where he served as usher.

Elmer was a member of the Jefferson City Jay Wrestling Booster Club, and the Jefferson City Jay Football Booster Club where he and Judy managed the concession stand for many years. Elmer was an active member in the communities he lived in: Hesston, KS, Terre Hill, PA, Versailles, MO and Jefferson City, MO. He cherished the friendships he made in each community.

Elmer was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa. He was his children and grandchildren “biggest fan” and supported them in every activity. He enjoyed traveling with his sons throughout the United States to home and away Chiefs games. As a family, they enjoyed visiting relatives throughout the United States and their annual trip to Lancaster County, PA to visit friends and family.

Survivors include: his wife Judith Redcay of Jefferson City; his children, Nathan Redcay his wife, Jennifer and children, Kaylee (10) and Nick (9) of Jefferson City, Desiree’ Schoenfeld her husband, John and children, Morgan (8) and Brooklyn (5) of Jefferson City; Brandon Redcay his wife, Traci and daughter, Emery (5) of Holts Summit; seven sisters, Lena Mae Weaver (Ivan) of Newmanstown, PA, Loella Garman (Lloyd) of Myerstown, PA, Elsie Beiler (Christ) of Leola, PA, Lizzie Leid (Aaron) of Ephrata, PA, Alta Stauffer (Eddie) of Ephrata, PA, Mabel Martin (Leon) of Ephrata, PA, Thelma Hurst (Vernon) of Ephrata, PA; four brothers, Melvin Redcay (Donna) of Bowmansville, PA, Ivan Redcay (Abbie) of Sarasota, FL, Lester Redcay (Pearl) of Mt. Hope, PA, and Glenn Redcay (Sherry) of Ephrata, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence Redcay (Stella) and Henry Redcay Jr. (Sandy).

Visitation will be held from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017 at First Church of God, 1614 Southwest Blvd., Jefferson City, MO 65109

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2017 at First Church of God with Pastor Joe Gregory officiating. Graveside services will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Zion Cemetery, 12764 Mt. Zion Rd., Versailles, MO 65048

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to First Church of God Envision Campaign or the Mt. Zion Cemetery Association.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
