Obituary for Keith Dyche

Keith Dyche
Mr. Hiram Keith Dyche, age 84 years, formerly of Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Thursday, March 8, 2017 at the Missouri Baptist Home in Ironton, Mo surrounded by his family.

Keith was born on December 19, 1932 in Oklahoma City the son of Hiram Randolph and Eldis (Keeth) Dyche. He was married on December 23, 1965 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Beverly Ann Geis, who preceded him in death on April 6, 1998.

He served as a Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged on February 18, 1955.

Keith grew up in Slapout, a small town in the panhandle of Oklahoma on the family farm. The son of a farmer and a school teacher, he grew up valuing education and the outdoors. He graduated from Laverne High School in 1950. Most of his adult life he lived and worked in Oklahoma City metro area. He retired from civil service at Tinker Air Force Base where he handled supply systems.

In his later years, he lived with his daughter and her family. They lived in Texas, North Carolina, and Oklahoma before coming to Jefferson City in 2009. During this time, he was active in church, spent many hours with his grandchildren, and volunteered for several organizations.

Keith enjoyed music. He learned to play the violin, or “fiddle” as he often called it from his father. In his young adult years, they would travel and play in area churches. Later, he became the “sound man” for his wife Beverly when she sang in area churches, handling technical issues and recording her performances.

Keith’s Christian faith played a central role in his life. It was on a single adult retreat with Trinity Baptist Church, Oklahoma City that he met his wife in 1965. The church brought he and Beverly together, and was an integral part of their marriage. He was a long-time member of the Village Baptist Church in Oklahoma City. Here he served in many capacities, including working with the youth group. He was a servant-leader, often working quietly to help wherever it was needed. He lived his faith intentionally. He modeled grace, patience, and loving acceptance to all he met.

Keith was a life-long learner. A voracious reader, he often read 1-2 books a week. He embraced technology and sought to learn to use it. He was creative. He enjoyed ceramics and pottery. He also had a photographic eye. One of his many cameras was usually accompanying him to all life-events. He loved taking pictures and capturing moments in time for others to treasure later.

He also enjoyed sports and the outdoors. An accomplished bowler, he enjoyed league bowling. He valued nature and loved camping with his family. He was active with the National Campers and Hikers Association. He also cheered for his Oklahoma State Cowboys in every sport, but especially enjoyed football.

Survivors include: one daughter, Sharilyn Hilliard and her husband Brint of Jefferson City, Mo.; and three grandchildren, Joshua Hilliard, Bailee Hilliard and Peyton Hilliard, all of Jefferson City, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents and wife of 33 years, Beverly.

Visitation will be at the First Baptist Church from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 16, 2017 with his funeral service following at 11:00 a.m with the Reverend Jeannie McGowan officiating.

Graveside services and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at Roselawn Cemetery in Okeene, Oklahoma.
