Obituary for Ralph Walker

Ralph  Walker
Walter Ralph Walker, age 97 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Adams Street Place.

Ralph was born September 7, 1919 in St. Aubert, Mo. a son of the late Joseph and Corilla McLaughlin Walker. He was married on May 21, 1939 to Dolly M. Richardson, who preceded him in death on June 14, 1992.

A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Ralph graduated from Jefferson City High School and attended Jefferson City Junior College.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II and was a Yeoman to the Captain of the Flag Ship and Bugler for the flotilla. He played taps at many military funerals throughout the years.

In his early years, Ralph was employed with the Jefferson City News Tribune. He was the State Photographer for the Missouri Division of Tourism for 39 years until his retirement. He also was a photographer for many of the Governor’s Inaugurations and was a noted photographer for weddings and portraits.

Ralph was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Basinger/Sone Memorial Post 1003, the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5, and the Host Lions Club.

He enjoyed photography, bowling, fishing and hunting. Most importantly, he cherished time with his family.

Survivors include: two children, Betty A. Gabelsberger and her husband Harold of Jefferson City, Mo. and Perry D. Walker and his wife Pamela of Holts Summit, Mo.; one son-in-law, Bill Burnett of Columbia, Mo.; six grandchildren, Wm. Travis Burnett and his wife Yolanda of Columbia, Mo., Beverly Connor and her husband Robert of Taos, Mo., Richard Gabelsberger and his wife Michelle of Taos, Mo., Joseph Walker and his wife Samantha of Jefferson City, Mo., Meghan Moeller and her husband Nathan of California Mo., and Kristina Cannon and her husband Chris of Holts Summit, Mo. and ten great-grandchildren, Samantha Moody-Walker of Columbia, Mo., Cole Cannon and Jackson Cannon of Holts Summit, Mo., Riley Moeller, Wade Moeller and Corbin Moeller of California, Mo., Rosie Connor, Annabella Connor, and Emmit Gabelsberger, all of Taos, and Wyatt Walker of Jefferson City, Mo

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter, Marilyn Burnett, his brother, Marvin Walker and a great-grandson, Alexander Connor.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:00 am Thursday, March 9, 2017.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am Thursday, March 9, 2017 in the Freeman Chapel with Kim Smith officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
