Obituary for Onetta "Sis" Cardwell

Onetta "Sis"  Cardwell
Onetta A. “Sis” Cardwell, age 93 years, of Henley, Mo., died Wednesday, March 1, 2017 at her home in the care of her daughters.

Sis was born December 30, 1923 in Jefferson City, Mo. the daughter of Eugene F. and Emma E. Hammer Saucier. She was married on March 25, 1945 in Kansas City, Mo. to William “Bill” Cardwell who preceded her in death on October 25, 2000.

A resident of the Jefferson City area for most of her life, Sis attended Jefferson City High School and graduated from Cole County R-5 in Eugene, Mo.

During World War II, she was employed as one of the Rosie the Riveters at a Defense Plant in Kansas City, Mo.

Sis was employed at Landwehr’s Dairy, McGraw Edison, and later as a shoe inspector with the International Shoe Distribution Center from 1969 until her retirement.

She was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church and the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 257.

Sis enjoyed fishing and the outdoors, but most importantly, she cherished rocking her grandbabies and spending time with family.

Survivors include: one son, Bob L. Cardwell and his wife Bev of Clovis, California; two daughters, Patti Tappel and her husband Bernard of Osage Bluff, Mo. and Lona Coker of Henley, Mo.; one brother, Charles Saucier and his wife Norma of Virginia Beach, Virginia; one sister-in-law, Georgia Saucier of Holts Summit, Mo.; six grandchildren, Chris Cardwell of San Diego, California, Buffy Levasseur of Henley, Mo., Jeremy Tappel of Osage Bluff, Mo., Sarah McCranie of Winter Garden, Florida, Branden Coker of Jefferson City, Mo., Stephane Coker of Tampa, Florida and twelve great grandchildren with another great grandchild due in August.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one son, Wesley Cardwell on March 21, 1998. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Don Saucier, Bud Saucier, and Bernard Saucier, and four sisters, June Goodin, Betty McKim, Hazel Puckett, and Margie Saucier.

Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 12:00 Noon Saturday, March 4, 2017.

Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 Noon Saturday, March 4, 2017 in the Freeman Chapel. Interment will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Hospice Compassus.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
