Obituary for Fred Kelsey

Fred  Kelsey
Mr. Fred L. Kelsey, age 84 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away on Monday, February 6, 2017 at the Jefferson City Manor Care Center surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 6, 1932 the son of the late George and Merl (Dearing) Kelsey. On February 7, 1953 he married Mary Ann Rockemann. Three daughters were born to this union. On August 31, 1973 he married Linda Carico Kelsey.

Fred served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

After his discharge from the Air Force he worked various jobs before beginning his career by serving and protecting his beloved community with the Jefferson City Police Department (1959-1962), and with the Jefferson City Fire Department. He retired from the Fire Department as Assistant Chief after 19 years of service. He then went to work for the Cole County Sheriff’s Office (1981-1982).

He was an active member of the Highway 54 Church of Christ and helped with renovations at the church.

Fred enjoyed fishing, woodworking, genealogy and cherished time with his family.

Survivors include: his wife of 43 years, Linda Kelsey of Jefferson City, Mo.; three daughters, Kimberly Kelsey (Richard Langsdorf) of Flagstaff, Az.; Kathryn Davis (Scott) of Linn, Mo., and Karen Lamb (Dennis) of Jefferson City, Mo.; his sister, Shirley Johnston of Moses Lake, Wa.; three grandchildren, Jason Cotton, Apryl Cotton and Joshua Cotton all of Linn, Mo., and three great-grandchildren, Joseph Stegner, Noah Vaught, and Brayden Cotton.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 6:00 pm Thursday, February 9, 2017.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, February 10, 2017 at Freeman Mortuary with Howard Scott, Minister at Highway 54 Church of Christ and Rick Yoder, Minister at Capital West Christian Church officiating. Graveside services with military honors will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
