Obituary for Margaret L. Klug

Margaret L. Klug
Mrs. Margaret L. Klug, age 93 years, of Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Sunday, February 5, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family.

Margaret was born on September 17, 1923 in Jefferson City, Mo. a daughter of Thomas Edward “Ed” and Lillie H. (Pennington) Thornberry. She was married on June 1, 1940 in Jefferson City, Mo. to George J. Klug, who preceded her in death in October 28, 1987.

Margaret moved to Battle Creek, Michigan during World War II to be a factory worker and help care for her husband who was wounded during the war. He later received the Silver Star for his valor and Margaret was by his side helping care for him until they moved back to Jefferson City.

A homemaker while her children were younger, Margaret received her Licensed Practical Nursing degree from Lincoln University in 1962, which was Lincoln’s first class with that degree. She became a nurse with Charles E. Still Hospital, Memorial Community Hospital, and later retired from Renz Women’s Penitentiary in 1988. Throughout her career as a nurse, she had lasting relationships with her co-workers and her sense of humor would always lighten the mood.

Margaret was a charter member of Memorial Baptist Church and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

She cherished time with family and grandchildren, especially her Sunday “dinners” because she loved to cook for all of them. She enjoyed gardening around her house, baking, and antiquing.

Survivors include: two daughters, Sandra Spencer (husband Ronnie) and Cynthia Young, both of Jefferson City, Mo.; two grandsons, Brit Boyce (wife Denise) of Jefferson City, Mo. and Ganon Boyce (wife Leigh) of Ocean Springs, Ms.; seven great-grandchildren, Kailee Boyce, Cole Boyce, Rachel Boyce, Hannah Boyce, Brooke Boyce, Kelsie Spears and Kiersten Spears.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, George; two sons-in-law, Darrell Boyce and Roderick Young; four brothers, Ray Thornberry, Eugene Thornberry, Thomas Edward “Buster” Thornberry, Jr. and Donnie Thornberry; and two sisters, Lela Boofer and Dorothy Thornberry.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2017.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 9, 2017 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Mark Towns and Chaplain Bart Larson officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
