Obituary for Walter Rhodes

Walter  Rhodes
Walter J. Rhodes, age 78 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Saturday, January 21, 2017 at his home.

Walter was born May 2, 1938 in St. Elizabeth, Mo. the son of John and Lena Libbert Rhodes. He was married on November 24, 1962 in Meta, Mo. to LaVerne Bax.

A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Walter graduated from St. Elizabeth High School.

He served in the United States Army from 1956 until 1958.

Walter owned and operated A-Able Landscaping and Tree Service in Jefferson City for nearly forty years.

He was a member of Immaculate Conception Church

Walter enjoyed gardening, fishing, landscaping, and cooking. He never hesitated offering his advice, and never passed on a good deal. Walter had an exceptional work ethic that he shared with others who crossed his path. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family, especially playing with his grandchildren.

Survivors include: his wife of fifty-four years, LaVerne Rhodes; one son, Robert Rhodes of Jefferson City, Mo.; two daughters, Lisa Rhodes Gilley of Jefferson City, Mo. and Virginia Rhodes Nichols of Jefferson City, Mo.; one brother, Bob Rhodes of Wichita, Kansas; one sister, Clara Hendrickson of Iberia, Mo.; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, Ronald Rhodes and Roger Rhodes, one daughter, Peggy Rhodes Winter, and one grandson, Ryan Rhodes.

Visitation will be in the Mausoleum of Resurrection Cemetery from 1:00 until 2:00 pm Friday, January 27, 2017.

Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Friday, in the Mausoleum of Resurrection Cemetery, with military honors following.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Walter Rhodes Memorial Fund.
