Obituary for Henrietta M. Schaffer

Henrietta M. Schaffer
Mrs. Henrietta M. Schaffer, age 89 years, of Belle, Mo., formerly of Holts Summit, Mo., passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 at her home.

She was born on December 15, 1927 in St. Elizabeth, Mo., a daughter of the late Theodore and Catherine (Fraken) Holtmeyer. She was married on May 18, 1948, to Alfred Schaffer, who preceded her in death on February 27, 2000.

Henrietta was raised and attended school in St. Elizabeth, Mo. until she married and moved to Jefferson City. She became a dedicated housewife and mother to her 12 children, all while keeping a very tidy house. Her love for children continued as she provided in home babysitting to others, as well has her own grandchildren. It wasn’t until later in life that Henrietta took a job as a housekeeper at Best Western Inn in 1976.

Henrietta was the foundation that her children built their lives around. She instilled in them the importance of family values, patience, cleanliness and unconditional love. They ate dinner as a family every evening, and she always baked homemade bread.

When she did have free time, Henrietta loved to dance and listen to music, enjoyed her word search puzzles, and reading. She and Alfred, travelled around Missouri and Arkansas to visit distant relatives, and enjoyed boating on the Lake of the Ozarks.

Henrietta moved to Belle, Mo. in 2007 to live with family, and became a member of the First Christian Church.

Survivors include: eleven children, Mildred (Johnny) Buehrlen of Belle, Mo, Conrad Schaffer of Jefferson City, Mo., Eugene Schaffer of Columbia, Mo., Charles Schaffer of Jefferson City, Mo., Bernadine (Richard) Ousley of Russellville, Mo., Louella Stuart of Belle, Mo., Alfred Schaffer, Jr. of Holts Summit, Mo., Johnetta Schaffer of Linn, Mo., Alvin Schaffer of Jefferson City, Mo., Milissa (Jerry) Brinker of Washington, Mo., and Kimberly Schaffer of Linn, Mo.; her brother, Theodore (Mildred) Holtmeyer of Gravois Mills, Mo.; her sister, Annabelle Schutzler of Jefferson City, Mo.; 37 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Marcus Schaffer; four brothers, Richard, Frederick, Winfred, and Edward Holtmeyer; and a sister, Delores Darvaux.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm Thursday, January 12, 2017.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 pm Thursday, January 12, 2017 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Mitchell Seaton officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
