Obituary for Judith A. Taylor

Ms. Judith Arlene Taylor, age 74 years, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital in Jefferson City, MO.

She was born on October 27, 1942 in Fall River, MA, a daughter of William and Elsie (Towers) Aspin.

Judy grew up in Rhode Island and was a 1960 graduate of Durfee High School in Fall River, MA. Shortly thereafter, Judy married Bob Brunson, and three daughters were born unto that union.

She was the office manager for Zip Beverage in Missoula, MT for 22 years. When Judy relocated to Missouri, she worked for Florsheim Shoes until their closing in 2002. She returned to the work force and finished out her career by dedicating five years to the Department of Revenue for the State of Missouri. She then dedicated many summers to floating in her pool.

As a strong, independent woman, she led by example and worked with men as equals—no easy feat for a woman of the 70s. Known by her family as Gram, she was a kick in the pants. Gram was very involved with the East Missoula Volunteer Fire Department; she served as secretary and was among the department’s first inaugural women firefighters. Vicious at a game of Scrabble, Gram asserted her dominance of the English language, even if she wasn’t “shure” of the word. Gram enjoyed trips to the boat to play penny slots and could throw back a few Bud heavies like the best of them. She had the best bleu cheese salad dressing recipe, so don’t even try to compete.

Survivors include: three daughters, Kelly Brunson of Jefferson City, MO, Casey Janssen of Jefferson City, MO and Carla Cooper of Norfolk, VA.; four grandchildren, Nickolas Baldwin (wife Kirby) of Gladstone, NJ, Ashlyn Wheeler (husband Stephen) of Jefferson City, MO, Trenton Tucker (wife Ashley) of Norfolk, VA, and Robert “Rahbet” Barnhart of Chicago, IL; and five great-grandchildren, Jonah, Abel, and Elsie Wheeler, and Eloise and Amelia Baldwin; her children’s father Bob Brunson and his wife Valerie Brunson of Missoula, MT.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Billy Aspin; two sisters, Barbara Westcott and Carol Ainsworth; and her son-in-law, Mike Cooper.

A private celebration of Judy’s life will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, Judy’s family has requested that everyone spend quality time with their families and cherish the things that matter. If you so desire, donations can be made in Judy’s memory to a charity of your choice.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
