Obituary for Rudy R. Findley

Rudy R.  Findley
Mr. Rudy Royce Findley, age 83 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Friday, December 2, 2016 at SSM Heath St. Mary’s Hospital.

He was born on March 12, 1933 in Willow Springs, Mo. the oldest of seven children to Rudy Folk and Stella (Lovan) Findley. He was married on August 5, 1956 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Louise Allen, who preceded him in death on May 10, 2006. He was later married on July 31, 2009 at St. Martin Catholic Church to Anna Marie (Herx) Brandt.

Rudy was a 1951 graduate of Willow Springs High School. After high school he entered the United States Army in 1952 and served in the Artillery during the Korean War.

He was a builder of homes in and around Jefferson City and St. Martins. Early in his adult life he worked for Missouri Department of Transportation in Survey and Plans and later as an auditor in Jefferson City.

He later served in the Missouri Army National Guard in administration for several years. He was a graduate of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy while earning an Associate Degree from El Paso College at the same time. He was called back to active duty, stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. then promoted to Sergeant Major, assigned as Training Center Liaison at Fort Knox, Ky., then back to Fort Wood and final assignment before retirement to Fort Gordon, Ga. While on active duty he earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from McKendree College and a dual major from Webster University

He was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church. With his military service, he was a proud member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5; Veterans of Foreign Wars, Basinger/Sone Memorial Post 1003; Chapter 17 of the Disabled American Veterans; and Fort Wood Sergeants Major Association. He was a past member of the Jefferson City Jaycees, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, and served St. Martins as both Alderman and Mayor.

Survivors include: his wife, Anna Findley; step-daughter, Julie Schweer (husband Jim) of Jefferson City, Mo.; three step-grandchildren, Jacob Schweer, Jennifer Barbour and Josh Barbour (wife Erin), all of Jefferson City, Mo.; five step great-grandchildren, Erica, Davis, Ellysa, Easton and Finley; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 49 years, Louise; an adopted son, Michael Findley; and his siblings, Ben, Bob, Tom, Bill Findley, Louise Clark, and Laura D’Eagle.

Visitation will be held at St. Martins Catholic Church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 7, 2016.

A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 12:00 noon Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at St. Martins Catholic Church with the Reverend Ed Schmidt officiating. Full military honors will be held immediately following the Mass at the church.

Private graveside services and inurnment will be held at Willow Springs City Cemetery in Willow Springs, Mo.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5, 1423 Tanner Bridge Road, Jefferson City, Mo. 65101 or St. Martins Catholic Church, 7148 St. Martins Avenue, St. Martins, Mo. 65109.
