Obituary for Tom Wolken

Mr. Alfred “Tom” Wolken, age 86 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Tuesday, November 29, 2016 at his home.

Tom was born November 26, 1930 in Jefferson City, Mo. the son of Ray and Stella Weavers Wolken. He was married on June 11, 1960 in Jefferson City, Mo. to Barbara L. Francis.

A lifelong resident of the Jefferson City area, Tom graduated from St. Peter High School.

He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict.

Tom was employed as a linotype operator with the Jefferson City News Tribune nearly forty years prior to his retirement in 1993.

Tom was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and a thirty year member of the American Legion, Roscoe Enloe Post 5.

He enjoyed listening and dancing to country music, playing cards, St. Louis Cardinal Baseball, working in his yard, and fishing. He volunteered at the Samaritan Center and was a master winemaker.

Survivors include: his wife of fifty-six years, Barbara Wolken; one sister, Mary Ann Link and her husband John “Bill” Link of Jefferson City, Mo.; nine nieces and nephews, Lawrence Lee Link, Marilyn Sue Surface and her husband Jack, Linda McNeil, Kathryn Speidel, Christopher Link and his wife Renee, Thomas Link, and Michael Link and his wife Tina; Lynne Kempker and her husband Tim, and Leslie Forbis and her husband Jeff; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Paul and Sharon Rodeman and Don and Mata Tellman; and his dog, Precious Angel.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 pm Monday, December 5, 2016 with a prayer service to be conducted at 3:15 pm in the Freeman Chapel.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 10:00 am Tuesday, December 6, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Church with the Reverend Don Antweiler officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be conducted at Riverview Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Samaritan Center.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
