Obituary for James M. Glover

Mr. James M. Glover, age 85, of Jefferson City, MO, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the University Hospital in Columbia, MO, surrounded by his loving family.

Jim was born June 18, 1931 in Mexico, MO to Grace E. (Phillips) and James A. Glover. He was married to Fran Borgmeyer in Taos, MO on June 22, 1957.

Following graduation from Jefferson City High School in 1949, he attended Jefferson City Junior College. Jim enlisted in the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War as a Russian language specialist. After his military service he attended the University of Missouri and received a degree in history.

He was employed at Continental American Insurance in Delaware, Hawthorne Industries in Glasgow, MO, Cessna Aircraft in Wichita, KS, Schriefer’s Office Equipment, and Samco Business Supplies in Jefferson City. After his retirement he worked as a substitute teacher in the Linn School District and as a part-time sales representative for One-Stop Office Supplies.

Jim enjoyed a lifelong love of aviation and held a private pilot’s license for many years. He also enjoyed boating at the Lake of the Ozarks, reading, history and genealogy and following his grandchildren’s’ sports activities. He was a member of the American Legion Roscoe Post 5, and he was a proud participant in The Honor Flight for Korean War Veterans in July 2013.

Jim’s greatest treasure was his family. Survivors include: his wife Fran, of 59 years; his children, Carol (Ron) Vossen of Jefferson City, MO, Lisa (Jerry) Schmidt of Warrensburg, MO, James (Kristi) Glover of Longview, TX, and Sharon (Chris) Bantrup of Boise, ID; his sister, Jeannette Smith of Jefferson City, MO; thirteen grandchildren, Ryan (Jessica) Vossen, Nathan (Haley, fiancée) Vossen, Aaron Vossen, Meghan Vossen, Thomas (Priscilla) Schmidt, Tyler (Molly fiancée) Schmidt, Katlyn Glover, Kyle Glover, Korey Glover, Karissa Glover, Kelsie Glover, Danielle Bantrup, Sydney Bantrup, and two great-grandchildren, Cale Vossen, and Parker Vossen.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and grandson Kurtis Glover.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary, 915 Madison Street, Jefferson City, MO from 10:00 am until 12:00 noon Monday, November 21, 2016. Funeral services will immediately follow visitation at noon in the Freeman Chapel, with the Reverend R.W. Beard officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow the service at Resurrection Cemetery, 3015 W. Truman Blvd, Jefferson City, MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Helias Foundation or JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation).
