Obituary for Dorothy M. Hartenstein

Dorothy M.  Hartenstein
Mrs. Dorothy Hartenstein, age 86 years, of Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at SSM St. Mary’s Hospital.

Dorothy was born on July 24, 1930 in Honey Creek, Mo. a daughter of Richard and Hilda (Brand) Propst. She was married on June 19, 1949 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Honey Creek, Mo. to Rudolph H. Hartenstein, who preceded her in death on October 28, 2006.

Dorothy worked for the Jefferson City Public Schools in food service, and as a secretary to the counselors at the Jefferson City High School. She was later employed with The Missouri State Division of Economic Development where she dedicated over 23 years before her retirement on May 1, 1994.

A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, she often volunteered at the Samaritan Center.

Dorothy was a gifted woman that enjoyed quilting, china painting and flower gardening. More than anything, she cherished her time with family and friends.

Survivors include: one daughter, Carolyn A. Case and her husband Pat of Jefferson City, Mo.; One brother, Leroy Propst and his wife Marjorie of Honey Creek, Mo.; two sisters-in-law, Doris Propst of Honey Creek, Mo, and Mary Ann Propst, of Jefferson City Mo.; two grandchildren, Joan B. Pierson and her husband Kenneth of Jefferson City, Mo. and James R. Case and his wife Jeanne of Russellville, Mo.; and three great grandchildren, Perrin V. Pierson, Taylor B. Case and Ryleigh R. Case.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Kenneth Propst and Robert Propst.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2016.

A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. Monday, October 31, 2016 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Russ Bowder officiating and the Reverend Ken Funke delivering the musical selections. Graveside service and internment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.
