Obituary for Cumalene W Carroll

Cumalene W  Carroll
Mrs. Cumalene W. Carroll, age 91 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Heisinger Bluffs.

Cumalene was born August 7, 1925 in Belinda, Iowa the daughter of Alver Blair and Hazel A. McClure Wood. She was married on June 2, 1946 in Belinda, Iowa to Richard P. Carroll.

She was a 1942 graduate of Chariton High School in Chariton, Iowa. She attended Iowa State University, Simpson College, and Drake University.

A resident of the Jefferson City area for the past sixty years, Cumalene was the owner and teacher of Capital Crafts for seventeen years. Earlier, she had been a teacher at various rural Iowa communities.

She was an active member of the First Christian Church and a fifty year charter member of P.E.O., Chapter JV. She was a volunteer with Memorial Community Hospital and later the Capital Region Partners for over twenty-five years.

Cumalene enjoyed all types of crafts, painting, knitting, and sewing. She and her family loved traveling, camping, and keeping family traditions. With her family, she camped at the Iowa State Fair for over ninety years. Her greatest joy was keeping up with her grandchildren and being a wonderful “Granny” to them all.

The family would like to share their appreciation for the faithful support of their First Christian Church family, Hospice Compassus, and the loving care provided by the Heisinger Bluffs staff.

Survivors include: her husband of seventy years, Richard Carroll; one son, Rick Carroll and his wife Janet of Estero, Florida; one daughter, Lori Hoover and her husband Doug of Ballwin, Mo.; one brother, Merlyn Wood of Chariton, Iowa; one sister, Marilyn Ortale of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Blair Carroll and his wife Christel of Boston, Massachusetts, Casey Campbell and her husband Cory of Springfield, Mo., Amy Hoover of St. Louis, Mo., and Andrew Hoover of Ballwin, Mo.; and two great grandchildren, Austin and Madelyn Carroll.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Visitation will be at the First Christian Church from 2:00 until 3:00 pm Sunday, October 30, 2016.

A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 pm Sunday, October 30, 2016 at the First Christian Church with the Reverend Beau Underwood and the Reverend Sara Kingsbery officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the First Christian Church.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
