Obituary for Howard Gebhardt
Mr. Howard Lee Gebhardt, age 74 years, of Jefferson City, MO passed away Friday, October 21, 2016 at his home.
Howard was born on November 15, 1941 in Keytesville, MO, a son of Ralph and Lucy (Richardson) Gebhardt. He was married on November 19, 1960 in Oklahoma to Donna Huber, who survives at the home.
He was a graduate of Glasgow High School in Glasgow, MO and studied law enforcement at Central Missouri State in Warrensburg, MO.
Howard started his professional career with the Missouri Highway Patrol in Lee’s Summit and later moved to central Missouri to become a pilot with the Patrol. He eventually became a pilot for the State of Missouri with the Office of Administration where he flew for the Governor’s office until his retirement in 1999.
A resident of Jefferson City for almost 50 years, Howard has been a longtime member of Concord Baptist Church.
He will be remembered as a “jack-of-all-trades” and was always busy being outdoors. He loved being out on the Lake of the Ozarks fishing. He fished in many Bass Master tournaments and even worked as a guide. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, reading and spending time with family.
Survivors include: his wife of 55 years, Donna Gebhardt; two sons, Jeff Gebhardt and his wife Brenda of Russellville, AR and Kevin Gebhardt and his wife Michelle of Holts Summit, MO; one brother, Donald Gebhardt and his wife Judy of Higbee, MO; one sister-in-law, Brenda Rafferty and her husband Bill of Moberly, MO; and five grandchildren, Matt Gebhardt, Steven Gebhardt and his wife Julianna, Grant Gebhardt, Kent Mastroianni and Nicole Schepers and her husband Andy.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held at Concord Baptist Church from 10:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2016.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Monday, October 24, 2016 at Concord Baptist Church with the Reverend Monte Shinkle officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Building Fund at Concord Baptist Church, 3724 W. Truman Blvd., Jefferson City, MO 65109 or Hospice Compassus, 600 Monroe Street, Suite 100, Jefferson City, MO 65101.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
