Clarice T. Kohen (Twenter) of Clayton, MO passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at the age of 78.
Clarice was born on October 28, 1937 in Pilot Grove, MO, the daughter of Cecilia Immele Twenter and Robert T. Twenter.
Clarice touched many lives in Jefferson City through her 25-year career as a business education teacher at Jefferson City High School. She was also faculty director of the student club, Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA). After retiring from teaching she served as Legislative Assistant to State Representative Emmy McClelland (R-Webster Groves) from 1992-2000.
Clarice received her BS in Education and her MS in Education from the University of Missouri, Columbia. Clarice had a passion for teaching financial literacy and developed her own curriculum including units on banking, employment, business law, taxes, insurance, retirement, investing and end of life planning. She enhanced her teaching by inviting local business professionals to instruct her students in their area of expertise. Clarice’s passion for business education stemmed from her knowledge that the tools that she provided her students would serve them well for the rest of their lives.
Clarice was an extremely talented designer and seamstress. She created the most stunning dresses for family and friends for the most memorable events of their lives—homecomings, proms and weddings. She was also an expert at hanging wallpaper and did so for anyone who would ask. Clarice was very dedicated to her family and friends and was always there for them regardless of their circumstances. She gave generously of her time, energy and resources to support the people she loved.
Clarice volunteered at the USO of Missouri (United Services Organization), the St. Louis Zoo and the Vitae Foundation. She was a long-time member of Immaculate Conception Parish in Jefferson City as well as Our Lady of Lourdes Parish in University City, MO.
She is survived by: her daughter, Lisa Gieseking and her husband, Matt, of Clayton, MO; her son, Robert Bruce Kohen of Winter Haven, FL; grandsons, Robert Kristopher Kohen of St. Louis, MO and Cole Louis Gieseking of University of Richmond, VA; and her brother, John Delano (J.D.)
