Obituary for Francis C. Wittkop

Francis C. Wittkop
Mr. Francis C. Wittkop, age 87 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., formerly of Freeburg, Mo. passed away Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at Oak Tree Villa.

He was born on August 23, 1929 in Freeburg, Mo. a son of Henry and Clara (Lauberth) Wittkop. He grew up in Freeburg and attended the Holy Family Schools.

Francis served in the United States Army for 20 years from August 30, 1947 until he was honorably discharged on August 30, 1967. He served during the Korean War and the Vietnam War and he was extremely proud of his service to our country. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

After he was discharged from the Army, he went to work at ABB in Jefferson City until his retirement in 1992. Francis had an amazing work ethic and during his retirement, he helped his brother every day on the farm until his health wouldn’t allow it.

Francis was an avid sports fan and loved attending Fatima High School sporting events. He supported all their sports programs and tried not to miss a game, even traveling to watch their away games. From this passion of youth sports, he helped establish the Little League Program in Freeburg.

Above all else, he cherished time with his brother and all his nieces and nephews, who he thought of as his own. He enjoyed Sunday dinners with the family and it is there he will be missed the most.

Survivors include: his brother, Alfred Wittkop and his wife Dorthy of Taos, Mo.; three nieces, Diana Findley and her husband Kevin of Taos, Mo., Carol Dulle of Jefferson City, Mo., and Nancy Baldwin and her husband Chris of Taos, Mo.; two nephews, David Wittkop of Taos, Mo. and John Wittkop and his wife Julie of Burlington, Iowa; and numerous great nieces and great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his step mother, Mary Bauer Wittkop; one brother, Joseph Wittkop; and the love of his life and significant other, Gladys Spratley.
