Obituary for Margaret F. Cox

Margaret F. Cox, 91, of Independence, Mo., formerly of Jefferson City, Mo., died peacefully surrounded by family members on Sept. 30 at the Villages of Jackson Creek.

Margaret was born April 27, 1925 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of Samuel and Marie (Romcho) Feciura.

She married Dr. William A. Cox on August 29, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois. He preceded her in death on November 20, 1989.

Margaret was a medical EKG technician at Woodlawn Hospital in Chicago where she met the love of her life, Bill Cox, while he was completing his medical residency. She accompanied her husband to Japan, while he served as a physician in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. They returned to Jefferson City in 1950 and set up his medical practice. She served as her husband’s office manager. They retired to Clearwater, Florida.

Margaret was a member of the Central United Church of Christ, the Cole County Medical Auxiliary, the Jefferson City Country Club and Meadow Lake Acres Women’s Golf League, helped deliver Meals on Wheels, and was a Cub Scout and Brownie Troop Leader.

Survivors include: two daughters, Carolyn “Susie” (Hadley) Stonner of Jefferson City, Mo., Diane (Mark) Burger of Kirksville, Mo.; three sons, Robert (Diane) Cox of Caruthersville, Mo., Michael (Marcy Urban) Cox of Georgetown, Texas and David (Mary) Cox of Lee’s Summit, Mo.; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Betty Chapman of Lee’s Summit, Mo. and Marie Obermiller of Columbia, Mo.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parent and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Claire Barnes of Chicago.

Private graveside services will be conducted at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Ascend Hospice, 738 NE Anderson Lane, Lee’s Summit, Mo. 64064.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Freeman Mortuary.
