Obituary for Dorothy A. Williams

Dorothy A.  Williams
Mrs. Dorothy Ann “Pat” Williams, age 87 years, of Jefferson City, Mo. passed away Monday, July 25, 2016 at Capital Region Medical Center.

Dorothy was born on October 12, 1928 in Paynesville, Mo. a daughter of Frank W. and Vera (Dahlgren) Patton. She was married on June 4, 1950 in Paynesville, Mo. to Daniel D. Williams, who preceded her in death on November 1, 1975.

Dorothy was a 1945 graduate of Clarksville High School in Clarksville, Mo. and graduated from Culver Stockton College in 1949 with her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education. She later received her master’s degree from Lincoln University in 1967.

Dorothy was a first grade teacher with the Jefferson City Public Schools for 32 years until her retirement in 1997. During those years she enjoyed working at West Elementary, North Elementary, and retired from Callaway Hills Elementary where she met some amazing friends. Before teaching at Jefferson City Public Schools, Dorothy taught in Meadville, Russellville, and California, Mo.

She was passionate about her teaching profession and involved with numerous organizations. She was past president of the Community Teachers Association, Missouri State Teachers Association, and the Cole County Retired Teachers Association and was a member and officer of the Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. After her retirement, she served as Vice President of the Jefferson City Public Schools Foundation.

She was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church, where she enjoyed volunteering her time. She was also active in the Capital City Women’s Club.

Dorothy was an avid reader and enjoyed watching Cardinal baseball and Mizzou basketball. She loved dining out with her friends and playing bridge with them. Most importantly, she was a patient, kind person and cherished time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: one son, Dennis P. Williams (wife Sharon) of Springfield, Mo.; two daughters, Dian K. Schreimann (husband Duane) and Denise E. Smith (husband Kent), both of Jefferson City, Mo.; three sisters, Sally Mayo (husband Ken) of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Betty Dery of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Frances Chisholm of Craig, Colorado; six grandchildren, Kelli Jones (husband Scott), Megan Webel (husband Matt), Jordan Williams, Daniel Williams, Drew Smith and Nolan Smith; and seven great-grandchildren, Caleb and Kendall Jones, Griffin, Thatcher, and Andersen Webel, Adelei Smith and Emerson Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.

Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 12:00 noon until 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Friday, July 29, 2016 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Matt Webel officiating. Graveside services and interment will be held at Riverview Cemetery.
