Obituary for Frank M. Masters

Frank M.  Masters
Frank Milton Masters, age 85 years, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Oak Tree Villa surrounded by his family.

Frank was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, on September 25, 1930, the eldest child of Ernest P. and Mary Alice (Gholson) Masters. Frank and Jane Ellen “Chuckie” Ely, were married in August, 1951 and they had three children. They enjoyed forty-four years of marital bliss until she died on December 25, 1995. In April of 1997, Frank and Betty Mueller were married. They had nineteen wonderful years of married life, with much travel, great adventures, good times, and good friends.

He attended the Cape Girardeau Public Schools, and graduated from Cape Girardeau Central High School in 1948, and attended Murray State University of Murray, Kentucky, graduating in 1955. Frank graduated from the University of Missouri School of Law in 1961.

Frank served in the United States Army from February, 1953 until February, 1955, attaining the rank of Staff Sergeant.

He was employed by Universal C.I.T. Credit Corporation, in Southeast Missouri and then was transferred to Jefferson City in May, 1957. He had been a resident of the Jefferson City area since 1957. After law school, he worked for the Missouri Joint Committee on Legislative Research. He was director from 1972, until his retirement on September 30, 1993. He was also the Revisor of Statutes from 1979.

Frank was a member of Grace Episcopal Church where he and his family were very active. He was very active in the Jefferson City Jaycees and the Jaycee Cole County Fair. He served as President of the Jefferson City Jaycees in 1963.

He enjoyed wood carving, reading, traveling and antiquing. Most importantly, he cherished time with his family.

Survivors include: his wife of nineteen years, Betty Masters; three children, Nancy Masters Barbour (Robert) of Fairfax, VA, Cecelia Masters McClure (Mark) and William Ernest Masters, of Jefferson City; step-children, Steven Mueller (Emily) of Lexington, NC, Douglas W. Mueller (Valerie) of Jefferson City, and Connie E. Stewart (Glenn) of Hilton Head, South Carolina; four grandchildren, four great-granddaughters, two step-grandsons, one step-great-granddaughter; and one sister, Mary Alice Carrell (William) of Anderson, IN.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Chuckie; one brother, Ernest Ray Masters in 1999; and grandson, Jacob D. Barbour in 2009.

Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 25, 2016.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at Grace Episcopal Church with Reverend Shariya Molegoda officiating. Military honors will immediately follow the funeral service at Grace Episcopal Church. Private graveside services and entombment will be held in the Mausoleum of Riverview Cemetery.
